I did not mean to wait until the last minute to send in my post, but time really got away from me this summer… so here it goes.
My husband, Geds, and I just celebrated our 18th anniversay a couple of weeks ago. It seems crazy to me that we have been together that long. Time really does fly when you’re having fun!! We have two wonderful boys…. Justin is 15, and Josh is 11. We also have a 2 year old retriever mix named Tuck —I am surrouned by boys
Justin actually attends Sunset — that just amazes me. We lived all over the world and ended up coming right back home. Josh will start middle school at Cedar Park this year.
Geds retired from the Army almost 3 years ago, so I spent most of my post Sunset life as an Army wife. Military life is very challenging to say the least, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. We have lived all over… Hawaii, Virginia, North Carolina, Washington, and also spent 3 years living in Belgium and 3 years living in Germany. Living in Europe was such a phenominal experience — we loved it so much and really took advantage of the opportunity to travel. Geds spent his last year of the Army in Iraq. That was an incredibly difficult time — he was out and about all over Iraq — in and out of Baghdad with his job. He had a few very very close calls, and we are tremendously thankful that he made it home safe and sound.
About 10 years ago I decided I really wanted to be a nurse. Once Geds retired I was able to go back to school, and I graduated from an 18 month accelerated nursing program in December of 2005. Going back to school with two kids almost did me in, but it was worth it. I now work at St. Vincents in the Orthopedic unit and I hope to be making a move to the maternity unit by the first of the year. Geds is now a police officer with the city of Portland. He works out of East precinct and loves it.
The most recent photo is from a hike we took this summer — we love to hike and camp. The other photo was taken at the going away ceremony for Geds’ unit before heading off to Iraq. The reason I included that photo is that it ended up in Newsweek Magazine!! We had no idea that someone had taken our picture, and no idea it was in that magazine. Someone who was with Geds in Iraq recognized our boys and told Geds about it. That was kind of exciting.
I have really enjoyed reading the posts people have sent it and I think this weekend will be very fun… take care — Michele Jakubauskas (Hurt)

Us then…1986 Jon, and Larisa and her brother Dave
Hello from Larisa Zimmerman and Jon Ross
We live in North Portland, in an 1890 house that was remodeled years ago to look like a 1960′s ranch style. We’re re-remodeling it back into the proletariat Victorian we know it really wants to be. No kids, just one small and cranky 16 year old tail-less and toothless cat, Princess Claire, and two smart nieces.
Jon is languishing in white collar wage-slavery while working on a novel. Larisa is a Theater Manager for the Northwest Film Center at the Art Museum, which is a different kind of slavery. Prettier cage (with moving lights)!
We’re finally getting married this February, on our 20th anniversary, though lately we’ve forgotten why. It’s been wedded bliss around here for years – hopefully marriage won’t mess that up.
Looking forward to seeing you all this weekend with equal parts excitement and dread!
Us now-ish, about a year and a half ago or so.

Hi, everyone. I am looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend and thought I would give you a quick update. Greg and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary last month. I cannot believe how time has flown by. We moved to Seattle nearly 3 years ago. I am Senior Corporate Counsel for Amazon.com, and Greg is in finance for a ocean transportation company with offices globally. We live in the Magnolia district of Seattle, with absolutely stunning views of downtown and Elliott Bay from our backyard. I never envisioned myself living in Seattle. After all, isn’t there some sort of unspoken rivalry between Portland and Seattle? We love it here. It suits our lifestyle very well.
Last year I traveled to China for business and visited the Great Wall and Tiananman Square. I also hung out with colleagues along the harbor in Shanghai over dinner and drinks. What an amazing experience to witness a Communist nation undergoing such enormous change. Greg and I have also enjoyed some great traveling together, including a trip to France in 2004 to witness Lance Armstrong win what was then his 6th record Tour victory. We rode our bikes over some epic climbs through the Alps, around the Arc de Triomphe (and amazingly enough, avoided becoming road kill) and down the Champs d’Elysee. Madame Bray would have been proud even though my French was horrificly awful.
No kids, but we have two Miniature Schnauzers named Sophie and Otto. With our lifestyle, we really don’t have much time to raise a family. Fortunately our siblings made up for us in that category. Outside of work, my time has been consumed by running a handful of marathons, including Boston, and racing my bike along with Greg for a local cycling team.
I’m looking forward to seeing everyone although I must say that I’m a bit disappointed to notice a few names missing from the “confirmed attending” list (you know who you are). If you’re on the fence about attending, please reconsider. It would be great to see you and hear what kind of trouble you’ve been up to.
If anyone is interested in contacting me, my e-mail address is stepburns@comcast.net.

Hi, Fellow Classmates!
I am sorry that I won’t be able to make it to this year’s reunion. I have a family reunion the same weekend. So even though I live in town, I’ll be out of town!
My biggest news is that last year, on March 25th, 2006, I got married to a wonderful man. We are expecting our first child (a boy!) in early December. We are very excited about becoming a mommy and daddy.
After graduating, I went to George Fox University and got my elementary teacher’s license. Then went on to get my masters in Deaf Education from Lewis and Clark College. I have substitute taught in grades K-12, mostly elementary, and then once they learned I knew ASL (American Sign Language), I taught at…Sunset! I have taught part time and subbed there the last four years. It’s fun to be able to walk the halls without a pass, to be on a first name basis with old teachers, and even have some old teachers sub for me! The school is doing very well; the main problem with the kids in class is talking on their cell phones as they drink their morning coffee!
My hobbies include writing and reading Christian fiction. I would love to have my books published, and hopefully they are in process to be so.
My husband, Phil, and I attend City Bible Church in Portland. We love it there!
I’d love to hear from any of you that remember me! (McMillin325@aol.com)
Many names are familiar to me, as I went to West TV, had many years in Camp Fire Girls, then on to Cedar Park, and then to Sunset.
Love,
Debbie (Luther) McMillin

I’m taking a chance at posting my life story for the past 20 years because I’m thinking, many (if not most), of you won’t recall who I am. I posted my pictures to help jog your memory, but I don’t look anything like I did in 1987. High school life was a quiet one for me because I was extremely shy, but I hold very special memories of those of you that touched my life from Meadow Park to Sunset High and I believe you know who you are. I think of you all often and hope that life has blessed you with love and happiness as it has for me.
After high school I joined the Air Force and became a nurse, traveling the world serving our country for 10 years then went back to school to receive a Masters in Business from the University of Maryland. I have two handsome sons (Antonio – 16, Tyler – 13) who continue to bring joy into my life everyday. It’s funny how I look at them now, as young men in high school, and can still recall my own high school life through their experiences.  I was married for 15 years and now happily divorced for 3. I currently reside in Sacramento, California and own a business development consulting firm with Michael, who has become one of the greatest blessings in my life.Â
Next year, if any of you happen to vacation in Lake Tahoe, my son (Antonio) and I will be participating in the Century Ride for Cancer event which will be held in June 2008. We will bike ride 100 miles around the Lake to raise money for cancer. Tell me if this isn’t a test of will and endurance for a 38 year old but all for a great cause!!
I hope this posting will reconnect me with all of you who remember me. It’s been 20 years but there’s another 30 or 40 more to go! Life is definitely different now and I would love to be in touch with you to share the memories and to possibly create new ones with our families! I haven’t decided if I will be attending the reunion in August. My work schedule is so hectic these days – I will try my best to be there! In the meantime, email me and let me know how you are! My email is luicitamoran@yahoo.com

After 20 years and not that much has changed. Graduated from UofO way back when and then did the celebratory month long back pack trip through Eupope, which was amazing. Met my husband, Brian almost 13 years ago and have been married for almost 7 years. No children but have a very energetic Pomeranian who thinks it is all about her. For fun we do a lot of camping, boating, playing with quads in the sand – pretty much big toys for big kids which keeps us young:)  Have stayed in touch with a few friends from way back, mostly Lynne Haney-DeLaCruz and Michelle Hurt-Jacabauskas. I would love to say I will be making it to the reunion, expecially after seeing all that are going but I am in a current battle with stomach cancer and between currently being bald from chemo and not always feeling all that well, we just didn’t think I’d be able to handle all the excitement. I’d like to also take this chance to say “thank you” to all those other long time friends who have been there to offer me support, you know who you are (I love the pink pig!) So have a dance, a drink and a conversation for me and I’ll be thinking about all of you.
